Cheek Augmentation in Atlanta, GA
Cheek augmentation (cheek implants) is a procedure many people do not know much about. This procedure adds definition and volume to your cheeks to address the hollowing out of your cheeks due to age. Cheek implants are inserted in a cosmetic surgical procedure that adds contour and volume to your face. Cheek implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Who is a Candidate for Cheek Augmentation?
Dr. Fletcher advises patients that they may be a good candidate for cheek augmentation¹ (cheek implants) if there is a desire to add volume to their mid-face and augment their cheeks.
Some patients may select complementary procedures to achieve their overall facial reshaping and renewal goals. These procedures include:
- Fat grafting or facial liposculpture
- Chin implant / augmentation
- Lip augmentation with fillers
During your consultation with Dr. Fletcher, he will discuss your concerns and recommend facial surgical or non-surgical procedures that can best address your goals. Factors that are considered include your age, skin tone, and skin elasticity.
It should be noted that a patient’s age is a consideration as older patients have diminished skin elasticity. In these cases, combining cheek augmentation with a facelift may be advisable.
How is a Cheek Augmentation Performed and What is the Recovery Time?
Dr. Fletcher uses two forms of implants – solid implant or injectable filler. When cheek implants are performed via injection, your cheeks are numbed before a small needle is used to inject the filler underneath the skin.
Surgical implantation of cheek implants² is done as outpatient surgery alone or in conjunction with other procedures. Silicone cheek implants are inserted in a surgical procedure, requiring small incisions just below the lower eyelids or inside the mouth. The incisions are closed with tiny sutures and there is minimal scarring after the healing time. The procedure takes under two hours in most cases.*
Swelling and bruising are typical, but pain is not usually severe with cheek augmentation. You can get back to regular activities in a week or two, although the swelling can remain for about a month. Fillers should last for up to a year.*
